New Direction?

Ok... so my last idea didn't quite work out as planned, but..... i now have a new idea bubbling away in my mind! The plan is not to get too much ahead of myself this time, so you'll just have to wait to find out what it is!!!

Dream over... already... bloody rules and regulations :(

Who would've thought that trying to set a up a home business would be so hard... too many regulations and  costs... unfortunately not enough money to make it worth my while :(
I'm feeling very disheartened by all it. The prospect of doing something that i loved for money made me so excited; i had planned everything out in my head, from the cupcakes i'd sell at the markets to the ads i'd put in the paper. Apparently it is just not meant to be...

How ridiculous is it that you have to have a double sink in your kitchen and another separate sink for washing hands, just so that you can make food to sell! More council red tape... I can understanding having to do a food safety course, but all the rest is just too much! Apparently, I'd also need a $500 a year public liability insurance, as well as $250 a year market stall insurance. No wonder there aren't more people out there trying to sell homemade food at markets! You can only do it if it's for a not for profit organization.

Oh well... looks like i'll just have to stick to making cakes for family and friends ( unless we win tattslotto and i can afford to follow my dream). Maybe one day i might be able to try again... it's just a shame that all the rules and regulations stop the "little people" from having a go.... :(

Teddy time!

With my husband out at golf for the day and nothing planned to do, i decided that today would be a great day to practice making sugar paste teddies. These cute little teddies and ABC blocks are fully edible and would be the perfect addition on top of a baby, christening or child's birthday cake. They can be made in any colour and any size! Cute!

I also wanted to post a photo of an Engagement cake that I made. I was a choc mud cake with chocolate ganache and malteser topping. The spray of love heart were made from white and milk chocolate.

Cakes, cakes, cakes!

Here are some images of cakes that I have made and details about each one...

1.My son's first birthday cake; Two tier, white choc and choc mud cakes with vanilla buttercream frosting and fondant icing.

2. Friends wedding cake; Three tier (double bottom layer) white choc mud cake with white choc ganache, silk roses and diamond sprays. The cute wedding couple are handmade (purchased from ebay!)

3. Sister's cup cake wedding cake; I made over 120 matching cupcakes, all white choc mud with white choc vanilla frosting and handmade sugar flowers. The top cake was also white choc mud with fondant icing and handmade sugar flowers.

Time for a new direction!

Welcome to my brand new blog! Yes, yes... i know... i have absolutely no idea of what I'm doing or how you make a blog, but i am excited! About what you might ask? Well, here's the deal...

I have decided to follow my heart and try my luck at doing 2 things that i love... being creative and baking! After making cakes for family and friends and realizing how much i enjoy it, i am now taking that hop, step and jump into trying to make a little extra cash from my hobby. My fingers are crossed in hope that my family and friends weren't just being nice when they declared that i "should go into business" and that my cakes were "the best they've ever tasted!" I know that i loved them and thought they tasted great... but as they say, Self praise is no recommendation :)

So wish me luck... or even better... get me to make you a cake! And stay posted as i show you all my latest creations (or maybe even have a whine about the trials of combining work and motherhood) and please take some time to check out some of the cakes i have made in the past (the photo above is the first cake i decorated, my own wedding cake).
